Telford, Telford and Wrekin, United Kingdom The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Cardio-respiratory Department comprises a dedicated team of Highly Specialist/Specialist Physiologists and Healthcare Scientists engaged in a variety of Cardiology and Respiratory Diagnostic assessments. As a vital member of our administrative team, you will serve as the initial point of contact for our patients within the department. Your role will be crucial in managing a consistent schedule of appointments while prioritizing patients in accordance with clinical and national objectives. You will collaborate with our physiologists to ensure the appropriate prioritization of patients and clinics as needed, while also handling phone inquiries related to appointments and providing assistance to staff both within and outside the organization.

Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a proactive and self-driven Administrative Support Officer to join our dynamic department. While each position is based at a specific site, flexibility to work across locations as required is essential. You will also assist in scheduling for the Cardiorespiratory section of the CDC, along with the broader booking team. On occasion, an onsite presence may be necessary, although most tasks will be performed from the acute sites.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in engaging with the general public, preferably in a healthcare environment. Strong IT skills and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure are essential in this often-demanding role. A courteous telephone demeanor, confidence, and initiative are critical. Responsibilities include scheduling and modifying appointments, answering phone calls, managing patient arrivals and discharges on both SEMA and CRIS systems, and addressing inquiries from the public and other hospital personnel.

The Cardiorespiratory Department operates in a fast-paced environment, necessitating our clerical staff to meet rigorous targets. Therefore, you will play a pivotal role in our team.

About Our Organization

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust serves as the primary provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million individuals in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales.

Our main facilities include the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury. Together, these hospitals offer just over 700 beds and assessment & treatment trolleys.

Both hospitals deliver a comprehensive range of acute hospital services, including emergency care, outpatient services, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care. The Cardio-respiratory Department operates at both hospital sites, conducting a wide array of diagnostic Cardiac and Respiratory tests for both inpatients and outpatients. Additionally, we will be providing some diagnostic services at the Community Diagnostic Centre when it becomes operational.
