Position Overview

The successful candidate will be tasked with providing comprehensive care to patients within Geriatric Medicine wards, alongside a commitment to the Movement Disorder Service.

This role involves collaboration with a dedicated team of seven Consultants specializing in Geriatric Medicine, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Applicants must possess full GMC Registration with a valid license to practice and be listed on the GP register.

The Geriatric Medicine services encompass five inpatient wards, including an acute frailty service within the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit (ACE unit) and specialized care for delirium and dementia on designated wards. The orthogeriatrics team is responsible for managing inpatients with hip fractures on the orthopaedic ward. The Movement Disorder service offers outpatient clinics and in-reach support for patients with Parkinson's disease and related conditions.

Consultants in the Geriatric Medicine team also contribute to daily clinical sessions within the community-based Acute Clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will deliver clinical services in collaboration with colleagues on Geriatric Medicine wards, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various health conditions.

Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team, you will maintain ongoing responsibility for the health and well-being of all patients under your care, ensuring appropriate delegation and training of staff. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues, you will oversee the safe and effective operation of the services in alignment with the values and operational policies of the Health Board. You are encouraged to identify opportunities for service improvement and report any safety concerns. Domiciliary consultations may be required as clinically necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and entry on the GP Register.
  • Completion of Training in General Practice or equivalent qualifications.
  • Inclusion on a Welsh Medical Performers List and evidence of continuous professional development.

Desirable:

  • Advanced degrees (MD or PhD).
  • Demonstrated interest in Movement Disorders.

Relevant Experience

Essential:

  • Training in Geriatric and general internal medicine with experience in managing patients with Parkinson's disease.
  • Enthusiasm for research and clinical governance alongside service delivery.
  • Familiarity with the NHS framework.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Essential:

  • Proven clinical expertise at a high standard.
  • Experience in developing and participating in educational programs for trainees and medical students.
  • Evidence of training in managing Parkinson's disease and knowledge in this subspecialty.

Desirable:

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
