Position Overview
The successful candidate will be tasked with providing comprehensive medical care to patients within Geriatric Medicine wards, alongside a commitment to the Movement Disorder Service.
Joining a dedicated team of seven Consultants specializing in Geriatric Medicine, the post holder will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality services.
Applicants must possess full GMC Registration with a valid license to practice and be listed on the GP register.
The Geriatric Medicine services encompass five inpatient wards, including an acute frailty service within the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit (ACE unit) and specialized care for delirium and dementia on designated wards. The orthogeriatrics team is responsible for managing inpatients with hip fractures. The Movement Disorder service conducts outpatient clinics and provides in-reach support for patients with Parkinson's disease and related conditions.
Consultants in the Geriatric Medicine team also engage in daily clinical sessions within the community's Acute Clinical team.
We welcome applications from both English and Welsh speakers.
Main Responsibilities
The post holder will deliver a clinical service in collaboration with colleagues on Geriatric Medicine wards, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various health conditions.
In partnership with the multi-disciplinary team, you will maintain ongoing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care, ensuring effective delegation and training of staff. You will also be accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the services you oversee, aligning with the Health Board's values and operational policies. Continuous improvement of services is encouraged, and any safety concerns should be reported promptly. Domiciliary consultations may be necessary when clinically appropriate.

Joining a team of seven Consultants, the post holder will ensure the provision of Geriatric Medicine services.
Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and inclusion on the GP register is essential.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and entry on the GP Register.
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice or equivalent.
- Inclusion on a Welsh Medical Performers List and evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable:
- MD or PhD.
- Evidence of a specialist interest in Movement Disorders.
Relevant Experience
Essential:
- Training in Geriatric and general internal medicine with experience in managing Parkinson's patients.
- Enthusiasm for research and clinical governance alongside service delivery.
- Working knowledge of the NHS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Essential:
- Proven clinical abilities to a high standard.
- Experience in developing and participating in educational programs for trainees and medical students.
- Evidence of training in managing Parkinson's disease and knowledge in this subspecialty.
Desirable:
- Publications in professional journals.
