Position Overview

We are seeking applications for the role of Orthopaedic Consultant with a focus on Foot and Ankle surgery. This is a full-time role comprising 10 programmed activities distributed throughout the week.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Full registration with the GMC
  • Entry on the Specialist Register (or anticipated entry within 3 months)
  • FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) or an equivalent advanced qualification

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will integrate into the current team to provide a comprehensive array of general Trauma and Orthopaedic Services, while also supporting primary care practitioners. Responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the training of junior medical staff
  • Engaging in research initiatives
  • Actively participating in the management of the specialty

The appointee will collaborate with existing consultants to deliver a specialized Foot and Ankle service.

Additionally, the candidate will be expected to participate in the Trauma Surgeon on-call rota, with a commitment of 1:11. During on-call weekends, the Orthopaedic Consultant will manage weekend trauma lists, with all elective duties suspended during the Trauma week. Compensatory time off will be provided the following week.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • GMC registration and entry on the Specialist Register
  • FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

  • Fellowship in lower limb surgery

Essential Experience

  • Clinical expertise in the Lower Limb sub-specialty
  • Experience in supervising and managing trainees

Desirable Experience

  • Background in Orthopaedic trauma

Essential Skills

  • Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other stakeholders
  • Commitment to ongoing personal medical education
  • Ability to provide expert clinical opinions on a range of emergency and elective issues within trauma and orthopaedics
  • Capacity to take full responsibility for the clinical care of patients
