About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Multi Skilled Rail Operations Manager. This is a key role that requires a strong background in railway operations, maintenance, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and monitor staff during the operation of rail grinding machines, ensuring effective maintenance and operations.
  • Evaluate processes and re-engineer to improve efficiencies and optimize production.
  • Support the implementation of innovative solutions and technologies.
  • Ensure the safe working of rail grinding machines and staff during grinding and maintenance operations.
  • Authorize timesheets and provide assessments for direct reports.
  • Carry out safety tours and inspections, and oversee the training and assessment of direct line reporting staff.
  • Produce training improvement plans and processes for implementation within Colas competency systems.
  • Compile improvements to rail grinding training documents and oversee machine maintenance outages.
  • Liaise with fleet, maintenance, and technical support teams to implement improvements and maintain quality systems.
Person Specifications

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in railway operations and maintenance, with a strong understanding of rail grinding techniques and processes. They will also possess excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in working with mainline grinders and rail grinding operations.
  • A proven track record in improving effectiveness in operations and maintenance activities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate and analyze root causes.
  • Strong IT, communication, and motivational skills, with the ability to lead a team and make decisions.
  • A recognized assessor and trainer qualification, or working towards qualification.
  • A full driving license, PTS, fire qualification, and emergency first aid certification.
