Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated Band 5 Pediatric Nurses to join our dynamic Pediatric Emergency Department.

The ideal candidate will be driven, with outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, and will thrive in a multidisciplinary team within the fast-paced environment of Emergency Services. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and experiences.

The Pediatric Emergency Department is a vibrant and demanding area, offering a rewarding experience. Our team enjoys a supportive atmosphere while being situated conveniently near various amenities.

New hires will receive a comprehensive orientation tailored to their individual development needs as Pediatric A&E nurses. We encourage our staff to pursue specialized training opportunities, including:

  • Pediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS)
  • Trauma Care
  • Mentorship Programs
  • Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS)
  • Emergency Department Courses
  • Stabilization of the Unwell Child Course
  • In-house training sessions, such as venipuncture and cannulation, complemented by regular simulation training from our dedicated educational team.

Essential Pediatric Experience Required

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold high standards of patient care.
  • Develop proficiency in fundamental nursing skills for the Emergency Department.
  • Ensure patient safety in alignment with local and national safeguarding protocols.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining local and national Quality Indicators for the Emergency Department.
  • Accurately document patient care in medical records.
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes in accordance with established policies.
  • Engage in monitoring care standards and quality initiatives positively.
  • Adhere to Trust policies and protocols consistently.
  • Collaborate effectively within the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and their families.
  • Support and mentor student nurses during their placements.
  • Maintain accountability for actions at all times.
  • Foster a harmonious working environment.
  • Progress towards the role of triage nurse, utilizing advanced assessment, prioritization, decision-making, risk management, and communication skills.
  • Oversee the security and maintenance of Emergency Department equipment, ensuring all tools are in safe working order in collaboration with the Lead Nurse.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Work within personal scope of practice and recognize limitations.
  • Respond to incidents and complaints as they arise, reporting to senior team members as necessary.

Job Responsibilities

The staff nurse will accept delegated responsibilities for specific tasks and areas from the Nurse in Charge, maintaining the department's philosophy, policies, and standards of care while supporting the emergency team in alignment with the Trust's values. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high standards of care to patients and their families.
  • Developing and enhancing both general and specialized nursing skills.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure exceptional nursing care within the department.
  • Maintaining professional and ethical standards, while being aware of the medico-legal aspects of the emergency department.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Registered Children's Nurse
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Certification

Desirable

  • PILS certification or proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Mentoring/Assessing qualification or willingness to pursue.
