Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven background in a Systems Engineering role.
  • Extensive experience in the development of measurement systems.
  • Degree in Physics or a relevant engineering discipline (Optical, Mechanical, Electronics, Systems, or Software), or equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the instrument development process, from initial concept to final delivery and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Background in design engineering.

Role Responsibilities:

We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to contribute to various instrumentation and metrology initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a track record of leading multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams, participating in all phases of the instrument development process, from concept to delivery. Experience as a design engineer in a primary engineering field (optical, mechanical, electronics, control, or software engineering) is advantageous.

In this capacity, you will play a crucial role within the project leadership team, collaborating closely with the project manager and lead scientist. Your responsibilities will encompass requirements engineering, system architecture design, assembly, integration, validation and verification, installation, commissioning, and the delivery of scientific instruments.

Key Duties Include:

  • Collaborating with scientific teams to establish instrument requirements.
  • Defining the overall system architecture.
  • Managing internal and external interface specifications.
  • Conducting comprehensive systems analysis and modeling.
  • Creating performance models for instruments, including manufacturing and alignment tolerances, as well as component specifications.
  • Establishing and managing technical budgets and tolerances.
  • Formulating assembly, integration, and testing plans to ensure compliance with established requirements.
  • Overseeing the assembly, integration, and testing of systems and subsystems of instruments and scientific products.
  • Conducting verification and acceptance testing at both subsystem and system levels, while engaging with stakeholders and managing customer relationships alongside project leads.
  • Documenting system design, procedures, and test results in accordance with internal engineering processes.
  • Coordinating with other specialists to maintain performance and meet requirements throughout the instrument development lifecycle.
