Job Title: Qualifications Assessor

Location: Remote

About the Role
The primary responsibility of the Qualifications Assessor is to evaluate the learner's portfolio against established assessment criteria and make informed decisions based on the evidence presented. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of various forms of evidence that learners can utilize to demonstrate their competency in meeting the assessment standards. Regular performance reporting to the Centre Manager is also a key aspect of this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure fair, valid, and reliable evaluations of learner evidence in accordance with assessment criteria.
  • Adhere to prescribed assessment methods as outlined in the qualification specifications.
  • Assist learners by clarifying the assessment process and the roles of individuals involved.
  • Guide learners in planning their assessments and establishing timelines for evidence submission.
  • Advise learners on suitable activities to generate sufficient evidence to meet assessment requirements.
  • Provide constructive feedback to learners regarding their performance and achievements, ensuring clarity in assessment decisions.
  • Collaborate with learners to develop and agree on an assessment action plan based on feedback.
  • Document and implement reasonable adjustments and special considerations for learners, ensuring compliance with IOSH standards.
  • Confirm that learners have signed declarations affirming the originality of their work.
  • Work alongside the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to devise a sampling strategy for internal quality assurance, including scheduling sampling dates throughout the year.
  • Participate in regular standardization meetings with the IQA.
  • Complete all necessary assessment documentation accurately and submit it to the internal quality assurer and/or Centre Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Stay informed about updates to IOSH policies, processes, and qualification specifications.
  • Prepare for External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits and ensure that any previous actions have been addressed. Assist in implementing recommendations following an EQA visit.
  • Take responsibility for personal health, safety, and well-being, fulfilling health and safety obligations related to the role.
  • Uphold dignity and respect in interactions with all employees, customers, and stakeholders, consistently demonstrating IOSH values and behaviors.
  • Exhibit an understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, applying these principles in all situations.
  • Perform any other reasonable and necessary duties within the scope of the role as required by the organization.

Candidate Profile

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with quality systems, assessment methodologies, and related processes.
  • Understanding of assessment and training principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) sector.

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient written communication abilities.
  • Robust IT proficiency.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail, with the ability to adhere to defined processes.
  • Capacity to meet established deadlines.
  • Confidence in seeking clarification and asking questions.

Experience

  • Proven experience in marking qualification assessments, preferably with IOSH or another awarding organization.
  • At least three years of experience in an educational quality assurance role, with a solid understanding of assessment and quality assurance principles.
  • Experience in a Health and Safety context.

Education

  • Qualified to at least Level 6 in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) sector.
  • Possession of a Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment or equivalent qualifications.
  • Desirable: Grad IOSH or Chartered Membership status with IOSH.
