Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Band 5 Nursing Specialist to become a vital member of our Pre-Assessment team.

This role is ideal for dedicated registered nurses eager to enhance their expertise in the pre-assessment process for surgical and urology patients.

We also invite applications for a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave.

The Pre-Assessment unit is dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluations for patients undergoing procedures in various specialties, including Cancer, Haematology, Urology, Gastrointestinal, and General Surgery. Our mission is to ensure that patients are thoroughly prepared for their upcoming treatments, and we seek individuals with a strong understanding of the pre-assessment function.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for a designated group of patients.

• Assist in the management and organization of the clinical area.

• Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of high standards of nursing care.

• Participate in the education, development, and supervision of fellow staff members.

• Collect, compile, and accurately report patient information while maintaining precise and up-to-date nursing records.

• Collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet the needs of patients and their families.

• Serve as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring and supporting students and learners in the clinical environment.

Position Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and their families.

• Recognize, prioritize, and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

• Organize and prioritize the daily activities of the nursing team.

• Supervise and contribute to the education of others, acting as a mentor or expert witness when appropriate.

• Ensure the efficient use of clinical, physical, and financial resources.

• Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, ensuring compliance among team members.

• Promote and uphold the highest standards of infection prevention and control at all times.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with a current NMC PIN.
  • Experience as a Band 5 nurse or above.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development.

Desirable

  • Degree in a health-related field.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrated knowledge of pre-assessment processes.
  • Able to effectively plan and organize personal workload.
