Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated, skilled, and compassionate Nurses to become integral members of our Oculoplastic team within the Ophthalmology department.

The selected candidate will undergo a thorough orientation program, with comprehensive training in Ophthalmic practices provided.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a thorough holistic evaluation of patients, employing a range of advanced clinical competencies while serving as a role model in accordance with the Oculoplastic Nurse Specialist role.

You will be responsible for assessing and diagnosing specific symptoms within your professional scope. You will provide guidance to medical and nursing personnel and/or prescribe medications based on patient needs, documenting findings in medical records, and reassessing as necessary. Additionally, you will assist in the clean room and manage patient admissions and discharges, ensuring they receive the necessary information for their continued care post-departure.

This position primarily supports the delivery of Oculoplastic services, collaborating with Oculoplastic Nurse Specialists and Consultants to enhance clinical service delivery.

Bring your commitment, expertise, and compassion to our team, and you will benefit from the support of a knowledgeable and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team dedicated to providing outstanding patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Our Oculoplastic service caters to over 20,000 patients annually as a sub-specialty within the broader Ophthalmology service, which serves approximately 180,000 patients each year.

We conduct Minor Operations (outpatient procedures), face-to-face consultations, and training sessions. The team is led by four consultants and a fully established Specialist Nursing team.

You will assist in the clean room, clinics, and other nursing-related tasks, working across various settings to deliver Oculoplastic services.

The bustling Ophthalmology department includes an ambulatory Day Case Unit that provides pre- and post-operative care for over 60 patients daily, alongside two extensive outpatient clinics, Orthoptics, Optometry, and an Emergency Eye department, offering care and treatment for a diverse range of Ophthalmic conditions.

The Ophthalmology team provides a comprehensive array of specialized services to ensure a timely, safe, and effective patient journey.
