Position Overview

Fixed-term Opportunity

We are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for two Band 7 Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists to join the oncology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. This role is part of a funded initiative aimed at evaluating the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provision and enhancing patient experiences within our services. Responsibilities will include conducting audits and benchmarking current services, identifying disparities, and pinpointing areas for enhancement. You will employ innovative strategies to pilot new services that align with the personalized care agenda, particularly focusing on the development of personalized care and support plans, as well as facilitating the transition of patients to personalized stratified follow-up pathways. Additionally, the role will involve providing Cancer Nurse Specialist support within oncology and the Information & Support Centre as needed.

As a Band 7 professional, you are expected to meet the essential criteria and possess the relevant post-registration experience as detailed in the person specification.

Main Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Cancer Nurse Specialist, you will address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, offering comprehensive treatment information, symptom management advice, psychological support, and guidance to additional services. You will facilitate the creation of personalized support and care plans through holistic needs assessments. Care delivery may occur in various settings, including face-to-face consultations, clinics, wards, and via telephone or virtual platforms. This position requires cross-site collaboration.

You will collaborate effectively with all healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care pathway within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) at UHL, which includes, but is not limited to, Oncology Consultants, Specialist Registrars, Tumour Site-Specific CNSs, Radiotherapy teams, the Information and Support Centre, administrative staff, quality improvement teams, data analysts, and personalized care teams. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to cultivate excellent working relationships.

Autonomy in your role is crucial, as is collaboration with colleagues to meet key performance indicators associated with the funding. Regular progress reports will be required for stakeholder groups within UHL and associated organizations.
