About the Role

The Senior Assessor plays a critical role in ensuring that only those who meet the required standards and competencies become IOSH qualified professionals. The primary responsibility of this role is to verify that assessments of an individual's knowledge, submitted portfolio, and any professional discussion interview process, are conducted consistently in line with the standards and learning objectives of our different competency levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure inclusive assessments, with fair access and reasonable adjustments
  • To ensure consistent and appropriate assessment standards are maintained
  • To provide recommendations on assessment outcomes to the Professional Development and Standards Team

Requirements

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of quality systems and processes
  • Understanding of educational assessment requirements and processes
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health sector

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organisation and planning skills
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to impart knowledge and understanding in others
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Exemplary record keeping and attention to detail, including working to defined processes and conditions
  • Robust IT skills
  • Ability to work and manage the work of others independently and meet agreed deadlines
  • Self-assurance and confidence to challenge and influence others

Experience

  • Demonstrable assessment marking experience, with IOSH or other Institution or Awarding Organisation
  • Evidence of at least 3 years of working in an educational quality assurance role with knowledge of assessment and quality assurance principles

Education

  • Relevant subject expert, qualified to at least Level 6 in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Sector
  • A relevant and appropriate assessment qualification, or willingness to undertake a qualification
  • Hold Chartered Membership status with IOSH
  • Higher level qualification or evidence of further study
