Job Title: Lead Assessment Specialist

Are you a member of IOSH with Chartered status? Do you possess a teaching or assessment qualification at level four or higher? Would you relish the chance to ensure quality assurance and mentor IOSH assessors who are guiding the future of IOSH Chartered professionals?

IOSH is seeking contractor professionals for the role of Lead Assessment Specialist to validate the assessment of our candidate members through their portfolios and interview stages on their path to Certified or Chartered membership. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance of evidence submissions and conducting professional discussion interviews.

As a contractor Lead Assessment Specialist, you will receive comprehensive training, guidance, and support in your role and will be expected to participate in quarterly standardization meetings. Please note that this is a contractor position, and you will need to maintain professional indemnity insurance.

About the Role
The Lead Assessment Specialist position is vital in ensuring that only those who meet our standards and professional competency requirements achieve IOSH qualifications. The primary duty of this role is to confirm that assessments of an individual's knowledge, submitted portfolios, and any professional discussion interview processes are conducted consistently in accordance with the standards and learning objectives of our various competency levels.

Assessments are essential for the successful admission of candidates to our membership grades and professional registration. To ensure success, this role encompasses three core responsibilities:

1. To guarantee inclusive assessments, ensuring fair access and reasonable adjustments.

2. To maintain consistent and appropriate assessment standards.

3. To provide recommendations on assessment outcomes to the Professional Development and Standards Team.

These tasks will be carried out under the guidance of the IOSH Professional Development Lead.

What You'll Bring

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of quality systems and processes.
  • Familiarity with educational assessment requirements and processes.
  • Proven understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) sector.

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey knowledge effectively.
  • Outstanding written communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail, adhering to defined processes and conditions.

  • Ability to work independently and manage the work of others while meeting deadlines.
  • Confidence to challenge and influence others effectively.

Experience

  • Proven experience in assessment marking, preferably with IOSH or another Institution or Awarding Organisation.
  • At least three years of experience in an educational quality assurance role, with knowledge of assessment and quality assurance principles.

Education

  • Qualified in a relevant subject to at least Level 6 in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) sector (Essential).
  • A relevant assessment qualification or a willingness to pursue one (Essential).
  • Chartered Membership status with IOSH (Essential).
  • Higher-level qualification or evidence of further study.
