At the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), we are pushing the boundaries of temperature measurement technology. Our team is seeking a highly skilled PhD researcher to join us in developing a revolutionary new approach to thermometry using active quantum-confined semiconductor optical resonators.
Key Challenges- Overcoming the limitations of current temperature measurement methods, which require periodic calibration and struggle to measure temperature on a sub-micron scale.
- Developing a miniaturized on-chip approach that provides accurate and reliable temperature measurement.
- To design and model a novel on-chip thermometry system using active quantum-confined semiconductor optical resonators.
- To fabricate and test the prototypes at the NPL, with a target uncertainty of ~0.1 K in the range of K.
- To demonstrate a fully integrated on-chip sensor with all components micro-fabricated on one device.
