Job Purpose

To deliver an exceptional student experience through teaching and assessment, and to undertake research and scholarship in a priority area within electrical and electronics engineering.

The successful candidate will contribute to management and administration, and play a leadership role in their areas of academic and professional expertise.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and sustain personal and group research aligned with the teaching and the School/College/University.
  • Contribute to the planning, organisation, and delivery of high-quality teaching, supervision, and assessment activities across under/postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.
  • Enhance your research profile, reputation, and esteem through establishing and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high-quality refereed journals, generating research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and design of under/postgraduate curricula, to ensure a research-led approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline and/or profession.
  • Manage a variety of academic administrative activities, including timely delivery of effective and constructive feedback on assessment, and provision of pastoral support.
  • Contribute to the management and organisational duties of Glasgow College, as assigned by an Executive Dean, and the wider School.
  • Engage in personal, professional, and career development.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a related discipline with a growing reputation for scholarship within the subject area.
  • A developing national/international reputation, evidenced by esteem indicators, in a field that matches or enhances existing activities within the School.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or commitment to achieving professional status within two years of appointment.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the higher education environment in China and East Asia.

Skills:

  • Ability, drive, and influence to develop an international research profile.
  • Research creativity and strong cross-discipline collaborative ability as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collegiate approach.
  • Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.
  • Extensive IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
  • Good team leadership skills, including demonstrable supervisory skills.
  • A strong commitment to high-quality, research-led, student-oriented teaching and proven ability to engage students to inspire learning, and to provide pastoral care to students.

Experience:

  • Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, including postdoctoral experience, appropriate to an early career researcher.
  • Evidence of an emerging track record of presentations and publications.
  • Experience in undertaking independent research and contributing to successful funding applications.
  • Excellent track record of development and delivery of teaching, tutoring, or demonstrating at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
