EPSRC Doctoral Prize Research Fellow

Job Purpose
The University of Glasgow is seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to join our team as an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Research Fellow. This prestigious fellowship aims to develop the very best EPSRC-supported students beyond the end of their PhD and support their transition to independent researchers.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to propose a novel research project in an area that fits within the EPSRC funding remit and demonstrate independence from their PhD supervisor. The prizewinner must undertake significant new research and submit at least one application for grant funding to ensure continuity of employment during the tenure of the award.
The University will provide the Fellow with a research mentor and the opportunity to work in a world-class research and training environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To conduct novel research individually or jointly as directed by the Academic Mentor.
- To develop and enhance the research profile of The University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including publications of international quality in high-profile journals and enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit.
- To collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions as directed by the Academic Mentor.
- To contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at external and internal seminars and workshops.
- To contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the securing of funding from external bodies to support future research and job sustainability.
- To contribute to outreach and recruitment activities of The University of Glasgow.
- To engage in professional development as agreed with the Academic Mentor, to enhance both specialist and generic skills and keep up to date with current developments in the relevant field.
- To contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan – World Changers Together
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge and Qualifications Essential:
- A PhD (SCQF 12) in an EPSRC-funded area.
- Specialist knowledge as appropriate.
- Evidence of a developing track record of publications.
Skills Essential:
- Good communication skills, including public presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Time/project/budget management skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to undertake prescribed tasks.
- Ability to show initiative.
Experience Essential:
- Sufficient relevant research experience, demonstrating appropriate independence.
- Experience of scientific writing.
- Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
