Develop Your Clinical Research Skills

We are seeking highly skilled health professionals to join our Multimorbidity PhD Programme as a Research Fellow. This is an exciting opportunity to advance your knowledge and skills in clinical research, working with leading experts in the field.

The programme is designed to develop the next generation of leaders in multimorbidity research, identifying and developing highly skilled clinical practitioners into researchers who understand and use multidisciplinary research to answer important clinical questions.

As a Research Fellow, you will be based in one of our partner universities: University of Glasgow, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh, or University of St Andrews. You will work closely with your supervisors to define your PhD project and develop your research skills.

This is a three-year fixed-term appointment, with a start date of 1st August 2025. We aim to begin a six-month preparatory period from February, where possible, allowing you to release one day a week (20% protected academic time) to work on your PhD project.

The core degree is a cohort-based PhD. You will be part of a supportive community of researchers, working together to achieve our goals.

Applicants can come from various healthcare professions, including medicine, nursing, allied health professions, pharmacy, dentistry, clinical psychology, and healthcare sciences. Medical applicants must be doctors in training or general practitioners within four years post-CCT.

We welcome applicants from all medical and surgical specialties, as well as NMAHPS and other clinical disciplines. However, they must have completed their professional training and hold a minimum of two years full-time equivalent clinical experience after registration.

Healthcare science professionals must be working as a healthcare science practitioner, clinical scientist, or consultant clinical scientist in physiological sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, or informatics. They must have completed the relevant NHS Practitioner Training Programme and/or NHS Scientist Training Programme, or equivalent, and be currently clinically active.

We require candidates with evidence of research or other relevant activity before application. All applicants must be registered with their appropriate discipline-specific professional body within the UK and licensed to practice.

Salary will reflect base salary, ranging from £43,442 to £64,641 per annum, depending on career stage and profession. Please note that individual starting salaries will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
