Position Overview

This role is integral to the leadership framework of Clinical Psychology, focusing on the management and enhancement of psychological services within the designated area. The Clinical Psychology team consists of various levels of psychologists, including band 8b, 8a, and 7 professionals.

The individual in this position will play a crucial role in the strategic planning, development, and assessment of perinatal mental health services. Utilizing advanced leadership capabilities, the post holder will provide training and expert consultation in clinical psychology, specifically within the perinatal mental health domain. The role involves assessing and treating clients in the designated area, with a workload distribution of 20% dedicated to management and leadership responsibilities and 80% focused on clinical interventions, managing a highly complex caseload.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will collaboratively manage the Clinical Psychology caseload for the South sub-team. Responsibilities include ensuring the development of specialized care and treatment plans tailored to meet the needs of clients with intricate mental health challenges. The individual will also support and mentor a band 7 Clinical Psychologist, ensuring adherence to operational policies and strategic objectives while delivering safe, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive care to clients.

Job Duties

Clinical responsibilities encompass conducting psychological assessments for referred clients and developing and implementing treatment and management strategies for various severity levels. The post holder will also provide psychological guidance and consultation to other professionals to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of clients during the perinatal phase. Additionally, the individual will lead the delivery and evaluation of psychological interventions within the service.

Collaboration with other health and social care professionals from diverse agencies is essential in providing comprehensive care to clients. The post holder will engage in teaching, training, and supervision, which includes overseeing clinical and counselling psychologists, trainee psychologists, and, when necessary, assistant psychologists or staff delivering low-intensity interventions. The role also involves providing specialized consultation on psychological therapies to other staff within the service and external health and social care professionals working with the client group.

Opportunities for involvement in management, policy development, service enhancement, as well as research, audit, and service evaluation are available. The post holder is expected to maintain and elevate the highest standards of practice through ongoing professional development and active engagement with current advancements in psychological practice relevant to the role.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in perinatal or child and family work.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Skills

Essential

  • Post-doctoral training in evidence-based psychological therapies.

Desirable

  • Training in trauma therapies such as NET, CFT, or EMDR.
  • Training in Parent-Infant therapy, including CoS and VIG.
