About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Custody Nurse to join our team at HCRG Care Group. As a Custody Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals detained by the police or other agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to determine the fitness of detainees for detention, interview, release, or transfer.
  • Provide healthcare interventions to manage minor illnesses or injuries and refer detainees to appropriate medical facilities when necessary.
  • Perform forensic examinations of detainees to record and document injuries, collect DNA evidence, and provide expert opinions when required.
  • Collect specimens as required under legislation and provide written statements as necessary.
  • Attend courts or tribunals as required, following relevant training and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and complete clinical records, including assessments, treatments, and outcomes.
  • Assess and manage alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal, as well as identify vulnerabilities and safeguarding pathways.
  • Support the clinical governance agenda of the organization and administer medications through Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and Patient Treatment Protocols (PTPs).
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a registered nurse in a relevant setting.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of forensic healthcare.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
