Community Midwifery Specialist

Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate midwife to join our integrated midwifery team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to be part of a well-respected and established midwifery service. We welcome applications from experienced midwives as well as those who have successfully completed a Preceptorship Programme (Band 6). Additionally, Preceptee Midwives with a minimum of six months of experience (Band 5) may also be eligible for consideration.
Our focus is on ensuring that women experience safe and personalized birthing experiences. We collaborate closely with local maternity services to guarantee that women receive high-quality care throughout their journey.
A valid full driving license is required, as the role involves community-based work.
Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the on-call rota, contributing at least once a month in addition to regular team duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate care plans throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods for women and their infants.
- Operate independently within established guidelines and professional practice standards.
- Serve as a mentor or practice supervisor for less experienced midwives, students, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Adhere to NMC codes of conduct and professional standards.
- Act as the Lead Professional for low-risk women.
- Deliver antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care in various environments, including home and hospital settings.
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide care for women with complex needs.
- Provide feedback to enhance the responsiveness of health and social care services to the unique needs of women, particularly those facing disadvantages, and advocate for their rights.
- Support and advocate for women's rights to make informed decisions regarding their care.
- Promote equality, diversity, and individual rights.
- Engage in annual appraisals, identifying specific training needs as part of ongoing professional development and service planning.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Completion of a preceptorship programme
- Proficiency in perineal suturing
Desirable
- ENB 997/mentorship qualification
- NIPE practitioner
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Understanding of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse, and working with women with special needs
Desirable
- Experience in community settings
- Experience with home births
