Mental Health Program Manager

As a key member of the MSF team, the Mental Health Program Manager is responsible for delivering essential psychological services in various contexts. This role is crucial in supporting the mental well-being of individuals affected by crises.

Role Overview

The Mental Health Program Manager oversees the comprehensive mental health initiatives and leads a local team, which may include psychologists, outreach personnel, and counselors, to ensure effective mental health support in both healthcare facilities and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting community mental health assessments and developing strategic plans.
  • Leading, training, and supervising the mental health team.
  • Coordinating mental health services for an entire project or facility.
  • Mapping existing mental health resources, including NGOs and government services.
  • Preparing monthly reports and ensuring precise data collection.
  • Monitoring and evaluating culturally sensitive psycho-social interventions.
  • Facilitating group therapeutic and psycho-educational sessions.
  • Implementing MSF's standard mental health protocols and procedures.
  • Enhancing work tools and participating in stakeholder meetings.
  • Coordinating patient referrals to appropriate local resources.
  • (For psychiatrists) Ensuring psychiatric patients receive adequate treatment, including medication and psychosocial support.
  • (For psychiatrists) Proposing and refining care strategies for individuals with mental health disorders, tailored to the local context and culture.

Qualifications for Psychologists

  • A Master's degree or equivalent in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or clinical social work.
  • Current licensure to practice in one of the specified fields.
  • Extensive post-qualification clinical experience with a focus on diverse populations.
  • A minimum of two years of direct patient psychological treatment.

Qualifications for Psychiatrists

  • A medical degree with a specialization in psychiatry, including validated training periods.
  • Experience in adult psychiatry, with a focus on practical applications.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in English and ideally a second language (e.g., French, Arabic, Spanish, or Russian).
  • Strong IT skills, including familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to thrive in challenging environments as the sole mental health professional.
  • Willingness to commit to a minimum of nine months, with flexibility for psychiatrists.
  • Experience working or volunteering in low-resource settings.
