Senior Underwriter Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our team at The Recruiter Ltd. As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, overseeing the renewal underwriting process, and evaluating complex risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Renewals underwriting, including approximately 75 renewals per month, across various commercial products.
  • Lead and manage a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, providing guidance, coaching, and support for their professional growth and success.
  • Maintain premium income per binder in line with projections and company strategy.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key brokers, identifying renewal threats and assisting handlers on renewal strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with best practice procedures, including processes and timescales.
  • Review and update renewal template letters to brokers, as well as filter referrals to insurers.
  • Act as a technical referral point for the renewals team, setting performance goals, conducting performance appraisals, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting effective communication, knowledge sharing, and teamwork.
  • Oversee induction and peer review for new starters, conducting one-to-one monthly peer reviews with each renewal handler.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with your broker panel, with monthly reporting.
Requirements
  • Commercial underwriting experience, specifically in Property and Liability, ideally in all or some of the products mentioned above.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Previous experience in setting clear goals and objectives, monitoring progress, and providing regular feedback and coaching.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks and make informed decisions.
  • Experience in dealing with Commercial brokers/ Insurers, as well as working in a small team in SME organisations.
  • Experience in underwriting with delegated authority or underwriting licences, with a proven track record of developing new and existing relationships with key brokers.
  • Ability to deliver on financial targets, work in a team, and on your own initiative, with experience in using software systems for underwriting and administration.
