Senior Underwriter Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team at The Recruiter Ltd. As a key member of our commercial underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing a team of underwriters and assistant underwriters, overseeing the renewal underwriting process, and maintaining broker relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Renewals underwriting, managing approximately 75 renewals per month, including commercial combined, property owners, retail package, general liability, and contractors liability.
  • Lead and manage a team of underwriters and assistant underwriters, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure team growth and success.
  • Maintain premium income per binder in line with projections and company strategy.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key brokers, identifying renewal threats and assisting handlers on renewal strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with best practice procedures, reviewing and updating renewal template letters to brokers.
  • Filter referrals to insurers, act as a technical referral point for the renewals team, and set performance goals.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, provide constructive feedback, and foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Oversee induction and peer review for new starters, conduct monthly peer reviews, and develop relationships with the broker panel.
Requirements
  • Commercial underwriting experience, specifically in property and liability, ideally in all or some of the mentioned products.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Previous experience in setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and providing regular feedback and coaching.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks and make informed decisions.
  • Experience in dealing with commercial brokers and insurers, working in a small team in SME organisations, and using software systems for underwriting and administration.
