Job Overview

Hiscox UK is a leading brand in the insurance market, recognized for its expertise in underwriting complex risks. We are seeking a highly skilled Mid-Market Underwriter to join our team and contribute to our strategic expansion in the mid-market sector.

The Role

As a Mid-Market Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting large, complex cases, generating significant Gross Written Premium (GWP), and upholding the high standards of risk management that Hiscox is known for. You will work closely with our underwriting team to identify and secure new and existing high-value risks, providing top-tier underwriting for complex exposures in familiar risk categories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expertly secure new and existing high-value risks, providing top-tier underwriting for complex exposures in familiar risk categories.
  • Concentrate on high-value policies in the mid-market sector, with a focus on maximizing GWP from significant risks in the UK.
  • Lead by example, influencing other underwriters, and exerting a broader impact within your field of expertise at a national level.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Significantly contribute to growth through strategic underwriting in the mid-market sector.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, renowned for your underwriting expertise in Hiscox's established risk categories.
  • Lead underwriting and sales visits to key clients and prospects.
  • Possess deep knowledge of your area of specialization, including understanding sector trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Impart expertise through coaching and training, enhancing our mid-market capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strategic broker relationships, ensuring a robust market presence in the mid-market sector.
  • Influence underwriting and pricing strategies, aligning with Hiscox's expansion goals.

Our Requirements

  • An excellent understanding of UK retail business and underwriting larger, more complex risks.
  • In-depth expertise in your specialized field.
  • Excellent knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, brokers, and factors that can affect the market, including soft/hard markets.
  • Ideally ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA.
  • Excellent relationship management and sales skills.
  • Ability to lead by example in all professional activities.
  • Lead underwriting and sales visits to larger clients and prospects.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced underwriters in underwriting and sales skills.
