Consultant Anaesthetist Role at Barts Health NHS Trust

CONSULTANT IN ANAESTHESIA WITH A FOCUS ON ENT/MAXILLOFACIAL ANAESTHESIA AND PRE-OPERATIVE ASSESSMENT

A permanent Consultant role has become available within the Anaesthesia department at Barts Health NHS Trust, primarily located at the Royal London Hospital. This position offers a remarkable opportunity to integrate into a well-established team of over 50 consultant anaesthetists within a prominent trauma center in London.

Key Responsibilities

The Anaesthesia Department delivers comprehensive services across all surgical specialties within Barts Health and is engaged in numerous innovative projects. This role is ideal for proactive professionals with the requisite expertise to become part of a distinguished multidisciplinary team that provides a full spectrum of services to a large patient population in East London and beyond, within a progressive teaching hospital setting.

Applicants must possess full registration on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register. Specialist Registrars nearing completion of their training may also be considered if they are within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of the interview.

Qualifications and Clinical Skills

Essential

  • GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • CCT in anaesthesia or equivalent, or if in training, within six months of CCT
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • ALS/APLS certification
  • Advanced training in ENT/Maxillofacial surgery, and Pre-operative Assessment

Desirable

  • Experience within the UK healthcare system
  • Advanced Airway, POA/HRA training
  • Experience in major head and neck surgical procedures

Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in diverse anaesthesia practices and major trauma management
  • Experience in peri-operative patient care, including pain management
  • Experience in audit processes

Desirable

  • Experience in anaesthesia specialties relevant to the job plan
  • Clinical management training
  • Experience in Clinical Governance
  • Experience in the postoperative management of high-risk patients
  • Experience in developing educational courses for nursing/AHP staff

  • Instructor status in ATLS, ALS, APLS, or PALS
  • Participation in undergraduate education
  • Involvement in postgraduate education
  • Experience in developing educational modules or courses
  • Formal qualifications in medical education

Research

  • Understanding of research methodologies
  • Encouragement of research initiatives among junior and other staff
  • Active participation in research projects

Desirable

  • Publication or submission of research to indexed peer-reviewed journals
