Position Overview
The Greenwich Council is on the lookout for a skilled and dedicated Fraud Investigation Specialist to join our Internal Audit and Anti-Fraud team.

Key Responsibilities
We seek a Fraud Investigation Specialist with a solid background in investigative work, who is proactive, innovative, and committed to effecting positive change. Candidates must exhibit substantial knowledge and experience in both civil and criminal fraud investigation outcomes.

We require a motivated individual, preferably with experience in a counter fraud setting, who possesses a keen analytical mindset and a thorough approach to their responsibilities. The ability to manage competing priorities and make informed decisions is crucial for this role. The ideal candidate will thrive under pressure and collaborate effectively with colleagues and various governmental entities as necessary.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Hands-on experience in planning and executing investigations within a Local Authority or similar Government Agency, particularly those involving complex, confidential, or sensitive matters.
  • A relevant qualification from a recognized body, such as the ACFO (Accredited Counter Fraud Officer) or equivalent.
  • The capability to exercise judgment and discretion during investigations, ensuring the confidentiality of cases in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and other pertinent legislation.
  • Proficiency in interviewing individuals suspected of fraud or irregularities, adhering to the professional standards set forth by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE), and legal guidelines for gathering witness statements, compiling evidence, and preparing case files for legal or police referral in accordance with the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA).
