Position Overview

This position is essential for maintaining the Very High Readiness status at Hamworthy Barracks, ensuring the operational capability of Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) for both training and deployment. The selected candidate will serve as an Amphibious Technician within the dive store, tasked with the upkeep, evaluation, and certification of all ALSE, pumps, compressors, gauges, and related tools and testing apparatus utilized by the Unit and in international assignments.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity within Hamworthy Barracks, offering a challenging work environment that promises job satisfaction. Candidates should be proactive, diligent, and comfortable working as part of a small team in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.

This is a full-time position, requiring 37 hours of work per week. While the role is not deemed business-critical, it is important to note that applications requiring sponsorship under the points-based system will not be considered. Strategic Command is currently undergoing a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery for Defence and the nation. Key Responsibilities

The Amphibious Technicians are crucial in ensuring the functionality of Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) at Hamworthy Barracks, as well as the necessary equipment for operational and training activities in amphibious contexts.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Ensure that all operational ALSE adheres to its servicing schedules (3, 6, and 12 months) within a 5-year cycle, guaranteeing equipment is available in a fully serviced state and compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Utilize initiative and experience to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across various equipment types, ensuring uninterrupted functionality for training and exercises.
  • Maintain readiness of all ALSE equipment, portable compressors, fixed air compressors, and oxygen booster pumps, ensuring they are fully serviced and operational at all times.
  • Ensure that all associated ALSE (gauges, tools, and test sets) are sent for testing within specified timeframes, completing all necessary documentation upon their return to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Participate in refresher training as directed by the lead technician for specific systems on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee the management of inventory, including stocktaking and ordering, to ensure that the necessary servicing packs are available to meet servicing timelines across all systems.
  • Accurately complete all military and civilian documentation for audits and inspections related to the responsibilities outlined above, understanding that the job description is not exhaustive and may require additional tasks as necessary.

Candidate Profile

We seek a highly motivated individual who is:

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a small team of civilian technicians, under military supervision, contributing proactively to team efforts.
  • A skilled, hands-on individual with proven experience in practical fields, who embraces challenges and is technically adept, willing to travel for exercises and training.
  • Prepared to undertake necessary training to maintain skill levels and remain current.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and assurance of all Amphibious Life Support Equipment in accordance with Chain of Command directives and current regulations.
  • Able to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating motivation, approachability, and a customer-focused attitude.
  • Proficient in basic written English, Mathematics, and IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A collaborative team player, capable of integrating into a mixed civilian and military workforce.
  • Technically inclined, possessing relevant qualifications or a willingness to undertake necessary training.
  • Willing to travel and support overseas military exercises autonomously several times a year.
  • Must possess a full UK driving license.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with dive workshop environments.
  • Understanding of equipment manuals.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Experience in engineering maintenance roles.

Licenses and Training

A full UK driving license is required. Completion of all mandatory training is essential, including specialized training for various equipment maintenance roles.
