Position Overview

This position is essential for maintaining the operational readiness of the Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) at Hamworthy Barracks, ensuring that all equipment is in prime condition for both training and operational missions. The selected candidate will serve as an Amphibious Technician, tasked with the upkeep, evaluation, and certification of all ALSE, pumps, compressors, gauges, and related tools and testing apparatus utilized within the Unit and in various operational settings.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity within Hamworthy Barracks, promising a rewarding and challenging work environment. Ideal candidates will be proactive, diligent, and comfortable collaborating within a compact team in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

The Amphibious Technicians are crucial in ensuring the functionality of the Amphibious Life Support Equipment (ALSE) at Hamworthy Barracks, as well as other necessary equipment for amphibious operations.

  • Ensure all operational ALSE meets its scheduled servicing timelines within the five-year cycle, maintaining equipment in a fully operational state and compliant with all applicable regulations.
  • Utilize initiative and technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across various equipment types, ensuring uninterrupted training and operational exercises.
  • Guarantee that all ALSE equipment, including portable and fixed compressors, is fully serviced and ready for deployment to support unit readiness.
  • Ensure that all associated ALSE tools and testing equipment are sent for timely evaluation and testing, completing all necessary documentation upon their return in accordance with current legislation.
  • Participate in refresher training as directed by the lead technician.
  • Manage air quality testing and installations, coordinating with external agencies while adhering to Health & Safety and Breathing Gas Regulations.
  • Oversee inventory management, including stock assessments and ordering supplies to meet servicing timelines.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation for audits and inspections related to the above responsibilities.

Candidate Profile

We seek a motivated individual who is:

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a small team of civilian technicians under military supervision.
  • Technically skilled with hands-on experience, eager to tackle challenges and willing to travel for training and exercises.
  • Open to undertaking necessary training to maintain and enhance skill levels.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and assurance of all Amphibious Life Support Equipment in compliance with Chain of Command directives and current regulations.
  • Able to thrive in a high-pressure environment, demonstrating motivation, efficiency, and a customer-focused approach.
  • Proficient in basic written English, Mathematics, and IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

Essential Qualifications

  • A collaborative team player, integrating seamlessly into a mixed civilian and military workforce.
  • Technically adept, possessing relevant qualifications or a willingness to undergo required training.
  • Willing to travel and support overseas military exercises autonomously.
  • Must possess a full UK driving license.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with dive workshop environments.
  • Understanding of equipment manuals and basic engineering principles.
  • Experience in engineering maintenance roles.

Licenses and Training

A full UK driving license is required. The selected candidate must complete all mandatory training, including specialized courses in various technical areas related to ALSE.
