Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a skilled Automotive Technician to become a vital member of our team within the Fleet Maintenance Division of the North West Ambulance Service. This position involves the upkeep of a diverse range of vehicles and related equipment that serve the extensive Merseyside area.

The working hours align with our established shift patterns, divided among two teams, covering a full week. The operational hours for the workshops are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday, and from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekends. Each team's work schedule averages over a two-week period.

The selected candidate will join our committed team, playing a crucial role in maintaining the Trust's vehicle fleet. About Our Organization

The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust delivers emergency medical services around the clock, throughout the year, to individuals requiring urgent medical assistance and transportation.

Our highly trained personnel provide life-saving support to patients in the community and facilitate transport to hospitals or care facilities. We also offer non-emergency patient transport services for individuals who need assistance due to their medical conditions.

In collaboration with other emergency services, we strive to ensure public safety and effective patient treatment during major incidents.

Additionally, we operate the NHS 111 service in the North West, which was established to simplify access to local NHS healthcare services, providing prompt non-emergency medical assistance.

Qualifications and Education

Essential Requirements

  • City and Guilds certification in motor vehicle technology or NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • A solid educational background, with a minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent.
  • A valid Full Driving Licence.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Driving Licence C1 + D1 (in progress).
  • MOT Tester certification.

Essential Experience

  • The candidate must possess specialized knowledge of motor vehicle electrical systems and mechanical components.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various computer-based vehicle diagnostic systems, with the ability to analyze and interpret the information to determine the best repair options.
  • Capability to diagnose vehicle faults without relying on diagnostic equipment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Vehicle Fleet Management Systems.
