Role Overview

The Energy Markets team at OEGEN is pivotal in achieving optimal results for our investment funds. The primary risk associated with our generation assets is their vulnerability to wholesale electricity prices. Understanding and managing this risk is the central focus of our Energy Markets Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize your commercial acumen and knowledge of power market dynamics to formulate and execute revenue hedging strategies across our assets and investment funds.
  • Initiate and finalize Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), managing exposure to wholesale electricity prices and establishing route-to-market strategies for potential acquisitions and innovative technologies such as battery storage.
  • Share your expertise in power markets with the broader team, providing insights during asset acquisition processes and new market entry strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with risk management protocols, including oversight and reporting on fund hedge positions.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports that deliver timely and precise updates to the wider OEGEN team for inclusion in communications with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor relevant energy market regulations and trends to provide concise analyses for the broader team and investors.
  • Evaluate external advisors' power price forecasts, methodologies, and key drivers to inform the asset valuation process.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the renewable energy sector or the broader energy industry, particularly in originating and executing PPAs and/or understanding electricity market dynamics and associated risks.
  • Strong grasp of power market structures and awareness of critical risk factors in PPA negotiations (experience with battery storage route-to-market agreements is advantageous).
  • Highly analytical and numerate, with experience in managing large datasets in Excel, capable of analyzing, modeling, and interpreting data effectively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A driven individual eager to enhance their commercial and financial skills within a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational capabilities.
  • Able to handle complex workloads in a dynamic environment.
  • A strong commercial mindset, with the ability to comprehend the implications of commercial decisions on investments and existing portfolio assets, coupled with the desire to take increasing ownership of commercial decision-making.
  • Flexibility and a proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and support colleagues.
