About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our team at J. Murphy & Sons Ltd. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting a portfolio of energy transition design projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
  • Providing technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Preparing plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
  • Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attending and conducting internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Performing technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and other.
  • Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Establishing and promoting best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  • Ensuring that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally requesting any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
  • Ensuring that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.
Requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Detail design experience of HV cabling projects.
  • Co-ordination of HV Cable Works design and interfaces throughout project lifecycle including development of drawings & calculations.
  • An understanding of the commercial and technical issues in undertaking a large-scale construction project.
  • Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
