About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our award-winning team at J. Murphy & Sons Limited. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting a portfolio of energy transition design projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery of safe, practical, and economic designs for internal and external clients to a high standard of professional competence.
  • Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, and design review, estimation, site supervision, and support as required.
  • Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical, and progress reports.
  • Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations, and other.
  • Ensure all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation, and company procedures.
  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  • Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
  • Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
  • Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.
Requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Detail design experience of HV cabling projects.
  • Co-ordination of HV Cable Works design and interfaces throughout project lifecycle including development of drawings & calculations.
  • An understanding of the commercial and technical issues in undertaking a large-scale construction project.
  • Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
