Position Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for an Operational Support Specialist to contribute to the West Hub at the University of Cambridge. As a vital member of the West Hub's Operations team, you will collaborate with a diverse group to provide outstanding customer service and effective building management for all users of the West Hub.

The West Hub, which commenced operations in April 2022, serves as a vibrant venue for social interactions, meetings, events, and collaborative workspaces within the west Cambridge campus. It features a variety of catering options, retail services, a library, and versatile spaces that accommodate teaching, meetings, and external events. The Operations team operates under the University’s Estates Division and reports to a management committee overseeing its strategic direction.

In conjunction with fellow Operational Support Specialists, the Operations Supervisor, and the AV & IT Technician, the Operational Support Specialist will manage daily operations, including building oversight, health and safety compliance, coordination of cleaning services, and assistance with both internal and commercial events.

Candidate Profile

We seek a candidate who:

  • Possesses relevant experience in hospitality, leisure, tourism, or educational environments.
  • Demonstrates strong teamwork skills and a commitment to achieving shared objectives.
  • Exhibits excellent listening and communication abilities, coupled with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Can think critically and act independently when required.
  • Is willing to pursue training in First Aid, SIA, Fire Warden, and COSHH.

The Operational Support Specialists work shifts starting at 13:30. Currently, the hub operates Monday through Friday, but there may be a future requirement for weekend shifts and extended hours up to 23:00. Flexibility to work a 5 out of 7 shift pattern may be necessary.

Occasional coverage for events and teaching outside of standard hours will be expected, with additional compensation provided for overtime.
