Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for a seasoned neonatal nursing professional to step into the role of Neonatal Quality Assurance Manager. This position involves overseeing and coordinating all facets of clinical risk management, governance, and enhancing the quality of 'Badgernet' data.

The Neonatal Quality Assurance Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that our Directorate adheres to NHS clinical governance standards and objectives. This position is essential for fostering a culture of clinical governance and safeguarding patient welfare.

Our teams are dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical, developmental, and family-centered care, aiming for optimal outcomes for our infants and their families. In this capacity, the post holder will lead investigations into significant events and serious incidents, developing and tracking action plans. They will also provide support and resources for staff to learn from these incidents, considering human factors, root cause analysis pathways, and ensuring that changes in practice are effectively implemented to prevent recurrence.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will take charge of all governance-related matters, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will address any issues that arise within the department, including Serious Incident Reviews and Root Cause Analysis.

You will foster a non-punitive environment where clinical governance and patient safety are prioritized.

Your responsibilities will include risk management and the investigation of all incidents and complaints, with findings communicated in weekly and monthly meetings.

This will be conducted in a supportive learning environment, allowing staff to reflect on their practices.

Essential skills for this role include being a visible and approachable leader, possessing excellent communication abilities, and maintaining confidentiality and empathy at all times.

This position also entails the development and implementation of policies and procedures in partnership with the team.

Job Responsibilities

As the Neonatal Quality Assurance Manager, you will provide specialized guidance and take the lead in investigating significant events and serious incidents, developing and monitoring action plans. You will be expected to support and inform staff in managing incidents and complaints, encouraging reflection on practice and sharing insights.

Your duties will include:

  • Promoting a culture where clinical governance and patient safety are integral to the care and wellbeing of all patients, staff, and families, fostering openness and accountability.
  • Guiding staff in the management of incidents and complaints, encouraging reflective practice and disseminating learning.
  • Leading the implementation and management of changes in response to lessons learned from incidents, ensuring necessary actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensuring appropriate levels of investigation are conducted in response to incidents, commensurate with their severity.
  • Overseeing incident reporting through relevant Trust and national governance channels.
  • Participating in relevant Trust and Network-level governance and risk meetings.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience in neonatal care.
  • Current NLS certification.
  • Training in safeguarding children.
  • Experience or willingness to undertake training in human factors/root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of audit and service improvement methodologies.
  • Leadership and management training.

Desirable

  • Experience in conflict resolution.
  • Background in risk management.
  • Experience in managing complaints.
  • Proficiency in report writing.
