About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Laboratory Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, supporting the laboratory team in the receipt, processing, and analysis of patient samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process patient samples, ensuring accurate and timely handling and analysis.
  • Prepare and dispatch samples to tertiary centers, adhering to strict protocols and regulations.
  • Make and receive routine telephone calls to/from healthcare staff, providing excellent communication and customer service.
  • Prepare biological materials for analysis, following established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participate in the 24/7 rota, covering a 7-day, 24-hour service in the laboratory.
  • Assist senior staff in the training of new team members, ensuring a smooth transition and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to the safe disposal of used specimens and waste products, maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Perform print runs of reports and assist in their distribution, ensuring accurate and timely communication of results.
  • Extract slides, reports, and other necessary items for clinical and non-clinical meetings, supporting the team's collaborative efforts.
Requirements
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and the importance of maintaining accurate records.
  • Proven knowledge of Health and Safety issues, with a focus on laboratory protocols and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and maintain accuracy and precision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to handle a wide range of specimens and consumables.
  • Flexibility to work in an area of biological risk, with frequent exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
