Role Overview: As a vital member of the laboratory team, you will support Biomedical Scientists in the meticulous preparation and processing of tissue specimens intended for histological and non-gynaecological cytology assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize your training to manipulate and embed small tissue samples in wax, ensuring correct orientation.
  2. Prioritize and categorize urgent and clinically significant samples for prompt processing.
  3. Conduct specimen preparation and perform cut-up duties, preparing slides and samples for microscopic analysis in both Histology and Non-Gynaecological Cytology.
  4. Execute routine staining procedures with precision.
  5. Employ a microtome to cut sections, demonstrating high-level skills to produce quality, artefact-free sections.
  6. Manage small biopsy material by cutting levels from blocks.
  7. Assist in the upkeep and operation of laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper waste disposal.
  8. Familiarize yourself with laboratory instruments and troubleshoot first-line issues as they arise.
  9. Engage in data entry into the laboratory computer system throughout various stages of tissue processing.
  10. Extract necessary slides, reports, and items for clinical and non-clinical meetings.
  11. Participate in the dispatch of specimens and materials to external centers.
  12. Contribute to the collection, receipt, safe storage, and disposal of reagents and supplies.
  13. Prepare solutions and gather chemicals from designated storage areas as needed.
  14. Assist in maintaining the safe storage of slides, blocks, and diagnostic samples.
  15. Support the maintenance and compilation of workload statistics.
