About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Dissector to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. As a key member of our histopathology department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our consultant team and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the surgical dissection of diagnostic B-E graded histopathology specimens, working closely with consultants and other team members to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Act as a designated person responsible for coordinating activities in the dissection team, providing leadership and guidance as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the dissection team to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Participate in audits to monitor the effectiveness of dissection practices and facilitate the implementation of service improvement changes based on findings.
  • Facilitate the induction, training, and competencies of staff within the dissection area, including Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists of all grades, Healthcare Associate Practitioners, MTOs, and ATOs.

Requirements
  • Completed diploma of expert practice in histological dissection
  • State registration with Health Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS) by examination or hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or significant equivalent experience in a specialist discipline in Pathology
  • Supervisory skills course - Trust or equivalent

  • Recognised qualification in management/leadership
