About the Role

Gordon Murray Group is a leading luxury automotive brand dedicated to creating and manufacturing exceptional driving cars. As a Senior Design Engineer - Body Structures, you will play a crucial role in developing and optimizing the structural components and systems that form the backbone of our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of composite body structures, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and aesthetic standards.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including design, aerodynamics, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of body structures into the project.
  • Materials Selection: Collaborate with materials engineers and suppliers to select and optimize materials for composite components, considering performance, mass, certification/compliance, aesthetics, and sustainability.
  • Requirements Definition: Define requirements for each system/assembly based on cascaded vehicle level targets and requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: Carry out risk assessments and FMEA during the earliest conceptual stages of design to identify risks and help eliminate or reduce failures.
  • Testing and Validation: Develop and implement testing and validation protocols to ensure the durability, reliability, and functionality of body composite design.
  • Project Management: Create and maintain working level plans, communicated with the design team and the project, that manage the delivery of composite components to project timing requirements.
  • Technical Expertise: Working knowledge of carbon fibre laminate and sandwich structure design, supplier materials, composite component tools design for manufacturability, creating layup manuals, and cure cycle specifications.
Requirements
  • Experience: Proven experience in the design and engineering of high-performance composite structures.
  • Education: Bachelor's/Master's degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or similar.
  • Leadership: Proven experience as a Senior Engineer with a focus on body composite design, preferably in the Automotive, Motorsport, or Aerospace industries.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of composite structures design, development, and optimization, with hands-on experience in relevant engineering tools and software.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of successfully leading engineering teams, creative thinking, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities.
