As a Structures Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of automotive engineering by developing and optimizing the structural components that form the foundation of our vehicles. Within a collaborative and dynamic environment, you will contribute to every stage of project execution, from initial design concepts to final product realization.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of composite body structures, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, safety, and aesthetic standards.
- Provide essential support to Principal/Senior Engineers as required.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including design, aerodynamics, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of body structures into the project.
- Partner with materials engineers and suppliers to select and optimize materials for composite components, considering factors such as performance, weight, certification/compliance, aesthetics, and sustainability.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) during the early conceptual design stages to identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate or eliminate failures.
- Support testing and validation protocols to guarantee the durability, reliability, and functionality of body composite designs.
- Create and maintain detailed work plans that effectively communicate project progress and manage the delivery of composite components within established timelines.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of carbon fiber laminate and sandwich structure design, supplier materials (including fibers, resin systems, sandwich core materials, and bonded assembly adhesive systems), and composite component tooling for manufacturability.
- Proven experience in the design and engineering of composite structures.
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in body composite design, ideally within the Automotive, Motorsport, or Aerospace industries.
- In-depth knowledge of composite structures design, development, and optimization, with hands-on experience using relevant engineering tools and software.
- A creative thinker with a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities.
- Highly organized, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directed, driven to achieve objectives, and comfortable challenging existing processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear and effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- A strong team player who thrives in collaborative environments.
