As a Senior Design Engineer specializing in Structures, you will play a pivotal role in developing and refining the structural components that form the very foundation of our vehicles. Within a collaborative and dynamic environment, you'll contribute to every stage of project execution, from initial design concepts to the final product launch.

This opportunity allows you to leverage your technical expertise and creativity to shape the future of automotive engineering at Gordon Murray Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of composite body structures, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, safety, and aesthetic standards.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including design, aerodynamics, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of body structures into each project.
  • Partner with materials engineers and suppliers to select and optimize materials for composite components, considering factors such as performance, weight, certification/compliance, aesthetics, and sustainability.
  • Define requirements for each system/assembly based on cascaded vehicle-level targets and specifications.
  • Conduct risk assessments and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) during the early conceptual stages of design to identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate or eliminate failures.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive testing and validation protocols to ensure the durability, reliability, and functionality of body composite designs.
  • Create and maintain detailed work plans that are effectively communicated with the design team and project stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery of composite components.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Proven experience in the design and engineering of high-performance composite structures.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Engineer with a focus on body composite design, preferably within the Automotive, Motorsport, or Aerospace industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of composite structures design, development, and optimization, coupled with hands-on experience using relevant engineering tools and software.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of successfully leading engineering teams.
  • A creative thinker with a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities.
  • Highly organized, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directed, driven to achieve objectives, and comfortable challenging existing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear and effective interaction with internal and external clients.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic work environment.
