Position Overview

The Principal Strategy and Performance Manager plays a pivotal role in fulfilling our commitment to safeguarding and enhancing the environment, ensuring accountability among government and public entities.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to spearhead critical initiatives that are fundamental to the Office for Environmental Protection's (OEP) effectiveness and growth. You will collaborate closely with our Board and Executive Committee on vital organizational matters.

We seek an individual capable of comprehending complex contexts and analyzing data to provide meaningful insights into strategic and performance-related issues. Building trustworthy relationships at all levels is essential, as is the ability to communicate information clearly and confidently to senior leaders while constructively challenging them based on evidence and insights.

This senior role is situated within our Business Strategy and Planning team, which is integral to the OEP's operations. Our compact team ensures that the OEP functions effectively and purposefully, with well-defined, comprehensible, and strategically aligned work. We support planning, strategy, governance, project management, program oversight, and risk management while also providing organizational support.

Key Responsibilities

The Principal Strategy and Performance Manager is a key position with significant influence over the success of our organization.

You will lead efforts to assess how we execute our strategies and objectives, guiding actions based on our findings. Acting as a critical advisor to our Executive Committee and Board, you will help maintain alignment with our mission and strategic goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enhancing our strategic management information systems and ensuring the Executive Committee and Board receive timely, accurate, and relevant data.
  • Providing insightful analysis and actionable recommendations based on performance metrics.
  • Developing and implementing our program management framework, including change controls and performance monitoring.
  • Prioritizing our work programs to maximize resource efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establishing a robust risk management framework, assisting the Executive Committee and Board in overseeing strategic risks.
  • Designing and executing evaluation projects to measure our impact and helping interpret the results.
  • Reporting our performance to stakeholders, including government entities and the public.

Organizational Planning

You will play a leading role in our organizational business and resource planning, ensuring that our initiatives are coherent, well-structured, and achievable:

  • Collaborating with the Executive Committee and Board to formulate our organizational business plan.
  • Supporting resource allocation within governmental planning frameworks.
  • Contributing to the development of the OEP's corporate plan for public dissemination.

Team Leadership

Leading our small project management team, you will ensure effective project management practices are integrated throughout the OEP's activities, delivering on our commitments within established timelines and budgets.

You will also assist the Head of Business Strategy and Planning in shaping and executing the OEP's corporate strategy:

  • Supporting the development and review of the OEP's strategic direction.
  • Leading targeted projects to address key strategic challenges.
  • Promoting understanding and advocacy for the OEP's strategy among colleagues and external stakeholders.

The work of the Business Strategy and Planning team is both challenging and rewarding, essential for the OEP's mission to protect and enhance the environment. The role will require flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving organizational priorities.
