Overview of the Division

Springer Healthcare IME serves as the independent medical education (IME) division of Springer Healthcare, a part of Springer Nature. Our team is dedicated to designing, producing, and disseminating independent medical education materials that address significant gaps in clinical knowledge. These initiatives are supported by global educational grants and are often accredited, ensuring that all content is developed in accordance with CME best practices.

Position Title: Medical Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Principal Medical Education Writer, IME

Department: Springer Healthcare Education

Work Arrangement: Hybrid model, requiring a minimum of two days in the office each week

Role Summary

The ideal candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Assessing and confirming unmet educational needs and objectives within the clinical field when responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) and educational grant submissions.
  • Creating and implementing scientific and clinical independent medical education programs based on thorough needs assessments that adhere to CME guidelines.
  • Identifying, engaging, and nurturing relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) for independent medical education initiatives.
  • Providing scientific support during educational events and representing Springer Healthcare IME at relevant meetings.
  • Overseeing content development for IME programs in collaboration with distinguished clinical KOLs, ensuring editorial quality across assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Educational Development
  • Formulate independent medical education programs through comprehensive needs assessments and identification of educational gaps.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with KOLs to guide program design and content creation.
  • Quickly acquire knowledge of new therapeutic areas to facilitate productive discussions with KOLs.
  • Participate in initiatives beyond traditional editorial roles to support broader IME strategic objectives.
  • Content Development
  • Provide clear and effective briefs to KOLs to ensure timely and relevant content delivery.
  • Write, edit, and proofread all project content to ensure scientific accuracy and coherence.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely project completion.
  • Advise on optimal formats and designs for educational initiatives to enhance learner engagement.
  • Stay informed on best practices in instructional design to integrate into program delivery.
  • Represent Springer Healthcare IME at live events, both in-person and virtual.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and serve as a contact for scientific inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with budgets and timelines.
  • Business Development
  • Contribute scientific insights to business proposals and new initiatives.
  • Attend meetings with funders and KOLs as a scientific representative when necessary.
  • Other Duties
Willingness to travel internationally as required and perform additional tasks as directed by the Principal Medical Education Writer.

Qualifications

Essential:
  • Degree in life sciences.
  • Experience in medical writing within the Medical Communications or Medical Education sectors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and a collaborative team player.
  • Flexible and open to taking on new responsibilities as they arise.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Desired:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience with live events, both in-person and digital.
  • Familiarity with instructional design or storyboarding.
  • Experience liaising with international clinical KOLs.
  • Knowledge of the IME/CME landscape.
