Overview of the Division

Springer Healthcare IME operates as the independent medical education (IME) division of Springer Healthcare, a part of Springer Nature. Our IME team is dedicated to designing, producing, and disseminating independent medical education materials to address unmet needs in various therapeutic areas. Funded by global educational grants, our programs are accredited yet entirely conceived, designed, and executed by Springer Healthcare IME along with our expert faculty, adhering to CME best practices.

Position Title: Medical Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Reporting Line: Principal Medical Education Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Department: Springer Healthcare Education

Location: London, UK (hybrid; minimum 2 days in the office per week)

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Assessing and confirming unmet professional practice gaps and educational objectives within the clinical landscape when addressing RFPs, educational grant submissions, and initiatives for Springer Healthcare IME.
  • Creating and implementing scientific and clinical independent medical education programs based on comprehensive needs assessments that comply with good CME practice guidelines, as applicable.
  • Identifying, engaging, and fostering strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) for independent medical education initiatives.
  • Providing on-site scientific support during educational events and representing Springer Healthcare IME at relevant meetings.
  • Leading the content development for IME programs in collaboration with internationally recognized clinical KOLs, overseeing all editorial aspects of assigned independent medical education projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Developing educational strategies and programs.
  • Formulating independent medical education programs through thorough needs assessments, identification of professional practice gaps, and establishment of learning objectives.
  • Building relationships with KOLs in relevant therapeutic areas to guide program design and content creation.
  • Quickly acquiring a working knowledge of new therapeutic areas to facilitate productive discussions with KOLs.
  • Participating in initiatives beyond traditional editorial roles to achieve broader IME strategic objectives.
  • Content Creation and Editorial Work.
  • Providing precise and effective briefs to KOLs to ensure timely and appropriate content delivery.
  • Writing, editing, verifying data, and proofreading all project content to ensure high standards of scientific and clinical accuracy, coherence, and consistency.
  • Collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Advising on suitable formats and designs for educational initiatives to address identified learning gaps and enhance learner engagement.
  • Staying updated with best practices in instructional design and integrating these concepts into program development and delivery.
  • Representing Springer Healthcare IME at live events (both in-person and virtual).
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of relevant therapeutic areas and serving as a point of contact for scientific inquiries.
  • Ensuring compliance with budgets and timelines.
  • Providing scientific and clinical insights for business proposals and new initiatives.
  • Attending meetings with funders and KOLs as the scientific representative of Springer Healthcare IME, when appropriate.
  • Other general duties as assigned by the Principal Medical Education Writer.
Required Skills and Experience

Essential:
  • Degree in life sciences.
  • Experience in medical writing within the Medical Communications/Medical Education sector.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and a collaborative team player.
  • Flexible and willing to embrace new responsibilities as they arise.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Desired:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience with live events, both in-person and digital.
  • Knowledge of instructional design or storyboarding.
  • Experience liaising with international clinical KOLs.
  • Familiarity with the IME/CME industry.
