Overview of the Division

Springer Healthcare IME operates as the independent medical education (IME) division of Springer Healthcare, a subsidiary of Springer Nature. Our IME team is dedicated to designing, producing, and disseminating independent medical education materials that address unmet needs within various therapeutic areas. Funded through global educational grants, our programs are accredited and are developed entirely by our expert faculty in accordance with CME best practices.

Position Title: Medical Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Reporting Line: Principal Medical Education Writer, Independent Medical Education (IME)

Department: Springer Healthcare Education

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum of 2 days in the office per week)

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Assessing and confirming unmet professional practice gaps and educational objectives within the clinical landscape when responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) and educational grant submissions, as well as for Springer Healthcare IME initiatives.
  • Creating and implementing scientific and clinical independent medical education programs based on thorough needs assessments that comply with CME guidelines, when applicable.
  • Identifying, engaging, and nurturing relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) for independent medical education initiatives.
  • Providing scientific support during educational events and representing Springer Healthcare IME at relevant meetings.
  • Overseeing content development for IME programs in collaboration with globally recognized clinical KOLs, ensuring all editorial aspects of assigned projects are managed effectively.
Key Responsibilities
  • Developing educational strategies and programs.
  • Formulating independent medical education initiatives through comprehensive needs assessments, identifying professional practice gaps, and establishing learning objectives.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with KOLs in specific therapeutic areas to guide program design and content creation.
  • Quickly acquiring knowledge of new therapeutic areas to facilitate productive discussions with KOLs.
  • Participating in various tasks and initiatives beyond traditional editorial duties to support broader IME strategic goals.
  • Content Creation and Editorial Responsibilities:
  • Providing precise and effective briefs to KOLs to ensure timely and appropriate content delivery.
  • Writing, editing, verifying data, and proofreading all project content to ensure high standards of scientific and clinical accuracy, coherence, and consistency.
  • Collaborating closely with internal teams to ensure timely completion of IME projects.
  • Advising on suitable formats and designs for educational initiatives to address identified learning gaps and enhance learner engagement.
  • Staying updated with best practices in instructional design and integrating these concepts into program development.
  • Representing Springer Healthcare IME at live events, both in-person and virtual.
  • Maintaining a solid understanding of relevant therapeutic areas and serving as a point of contact for scientific inquiries.
  • Ensuring compliance with budgets and timelines.
  • Contributing to business development:
  • Providing valuable scientific and clinical insights for business proposals and new initiatives.
  • Attending meetings with funders and KOLs as the scientific representative for Springer Healthcare IME, when appropriate.
  • Other general duties as assigned.
International travel may be required as necessary. Any additional responsibilities as requested by the Principal Medical Education Writer.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:
  • Degree in life sciences.
  • Experience in medical writing within the Medical Communications or Medical Education sectors.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and a collaborative team player.
  • Flexible and willing to embrace new responsibilities as they arise.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Desired:
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience with live events, both in-person and digital.
  • Knowledge of instructional design or storyboarding.
  • Experience working with international clinical KOLs.
  • Familiarity with the IME/CME industry.
