Work Environment

Reporting directly to the Countryside Manager, you will oversee a dedicated team consisting of 2 Rangers and 2 Assistant Rangers. Your base will be in a stunning estate in Norfolk.

You will foster relationships within the local community, acting as a proud representative of the Trust and sharing insights about the impactful work you and your team are undertaking. Your enthusiasm and knowledge will encourage others to cherish this area as much as you do.

As the first acquisition of the National Trust, this expansive estate features 4600 acres of parkland, woodlands, farmland, lakes, and chalk streams, making it a favored destination for tourists and local residents alike.

Key Responsibilities

You will develop and manage a dynamic work plan for your team, supporting fellow rangers in their engagement and conservation efforts.

Your role will be crucial in maintaining high standards of presentation and property upkeep while nurturing strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighboring land managers.

Additionally, you will be instrumental in effectively communicating our conservation initiatives to diverse audiences through events, guided walks, and community engagement. Your innovative business ideas will also contribute significantly to the team's success in generating income for our countryside sites.

Proficiency in the use of machinery and equipment is vital, and support will be provided for certification and refresher training as needed.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Proven experience in land management, access, and conservation, including project delivery and contractor supervision.
  • Ability to develop and implement work programs that achieve conservation and access goals.
  • Strong team player with experience in leading and managing teams of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Practical skills across various habitats and estate management, with certifications in chainsaw operation, tractor driving, and trailer towing.
  • Commitment to safety, including the ability to write risk assessments and adhere to safety and environmental protocols.
  • Passion for nature and the outdoors, with the ability to engage visitors and help them understand the significance of our work.
  • Experience in tree safety management and conducting tree inspections.
