Work Environment

Reporting directly to the Countryside Manager, you will oversee a dedicated team comprising 2 Rangers and 2 Assistant Rangers, based at a significant estate in Norfolk.

You will foster connections within the local community, representing the Trust with pride and sharing insights about the impactful work you and your team are undertaking.

This historic estate encompasses 4600 acres of diverse landscapes, including parkland, woodlands, and waterways, making it a favored destination for visitors and locals alike.

Key Responsibilities

You will develop and manage a dynamic work schedule for yourself and your team, supporting fellow rangers in conservation and community engagement initiatives.

Your role will be pivotal in upholding high standards of property maintenance and presentation while cultivating strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighboring land managers.

Additionally, you will be responsible for effectively communicating our conservation efforts to a diverse audience through events, guided tours, and community engagement activities. Your innovative business ideas will also contribute significantly to the financial sustainability of our countryside sites.

Proficiency in the use of machinery and equipment is crucial, and support will be provided for certification and refresher training as needed.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in land management, access, and conservation, including the execution of small projects and oversight of contractors.
  • Experience in creating and implementing work programs aimed at achieving conservation and access objectives.
  • A proven team player with experience in leading and managing teams of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Practical skills across various habitats and estate management, with certifications in chainsaw operation, tractor driving, and trailer towing.
  • Ability to work safely, taking the lead on compliance matters, including drafting risk assessments and adhering to safety and environmental protocols.
  • A strong commitment to nature and the outdoors, with the ability to engage visitors and help them appreciate the significance of our work.
  • Experience in tree safety management and conducting tree inspections.
