About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team at Norfolk Wildlife Trust. As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological expertise to ensure our clients' projects move forward while protecting and benefiting nature and wildlife.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct protected species surveys and site and habitat surveys and assessments, including Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for a wide range of habitats and species.
  • Provide conservation management advice for species and habitats.
  • Act as an Ecological Clerk of Works on selected projects.

You will also have line management responsibilities for an Assistant Ecologist and will delegate tasks to the Principal Ecologist as needed.

Requirements
  • A degree in ecology or a related field.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it.
  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant work experience.
  • Understanding and experience in the application of UK environmental legislation and policy.
  • Experience in ecological field survey work, including UKHab and protected species surveys.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of and familiarity with survey guidance for a range of protected species.
  • Experience in report writing, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans, and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Previous experience in conservation or with a consultancy business.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to own transport with business insurance use.
