Work Environment

Reporting directly to the Countryside Manager, you will lead a dedicated team comprising 2 Rangers and 2 Assistant Rangers, based at Blickling Estate in Norfolk.

Your role will involve fostering connections within the local community, proudly representing the Trust, and sharing insights about the impactful work you and your team undertake.

As the National Trust's inaugural acquisition, the expansive 4600 acres of parkland, woodlands, farmland, lakes, and chalk streams serve as a cherished destination for tourists and local residents alike.

Key Responsibilities

You will develop and oversee a dynamic work plan for yourself and your team, supporting fellow rangers in their engagement and conservation initiatives.

Your primary focus will be on maintaining exceptional standards of property presentation and upkeep while nurturing strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighboring land managers.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in effectively communicating our conservation efforts to diverse audiences through events, guided walks, and community engagement. Your innovative business ideas will be vital in generating income for our countryside sites, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Proficiency in operating machinery and equipment is essential, with support available for obtaining necessary certifications and refresher training as needed.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking individuals with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in land management, access, and conservation, including the execution of small projects and oversight of contractors.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement work programs that achieve conservation and access objectives.
  • Strong team player with experience in leading and managing teams of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Practical skills across various habitats and estate management, with certifications in chainsaw operation, tractor driving, and trailer towing.
  • Commitment to safety, including the ability to lead compliance efforts by drafting risk assessments and adhering to safety and environmental protocols.
  • Passion for nature and the outdoors, with the ability to engage visitors and help them appreciate the significance of our work.
  • Experience in tree safety management and conducting tree inspections.
