Job Overview

Urban Water Management Specialists - All Experience Levels and Locations Across the UK

We are experiencing significant growth in our Water sector, prompting the need to recruit Urban Water Management Specialists in various offices throughout the UK. The successful candidates will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, modellers, geographers, GIS experts, and technicians, contributing to projects for a wide array of clients, including water utilities, local councils, and developers, with opportunities to engage in international initiatives.

The Urban Water Management team operates within the Asset Planning & Solutions division, undertaking a variety of projects related to water and wastewater management. This includes designing water supply systems and trunk mains, as well as enhancing drainage networks to mitigate flooding and pollution issues, thereby improving environmental conditions. Typical responsibilities involve conducting feasibility studies and projects utilizing computer modelling and analysis to support operational and environmental recommendations or other interventions.

While familiarity with urban drainage modelling software such as InfoWorks ICM (or CS), GIS tools like ARC or MapInfo, and civil engineering principles is beneficial, it is not mandatory as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided as needed. The roles will entail conducting feasibility studies, performing computer analyses to support flood mitigation and environmental enhancement projects, and engaging in site visits and discussions with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and other professional entities. The output will generally be in the form of concise reports detailing the methodologies employed and findings from the investigations.

For senior positions, varying degrees of experience in model development and validation, hydraulic and water quality assessments, catchment management, Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning (DWMP), solution formulation, and technical leadership will be required to align with the specific role.
Qualifications
  • BSc/BEng/MEng degree in geography, GIS, environmental science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent qualifications considered for senior roles.
  • Technician positions require HNC or HND qualifications in similar disciplines. Opportunities for professional development will be available for successful candidates.
Training and Development:
AtkinsRéalis is dedicated to nurturing individual growth through a comprehensive suite of training and development initiatives aimed at maximizing your potential. These are assessed annually through a performance review process. We actively encourage staff to pursue professional qualifications from relevant institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing computer models to analyze flooding and environmental challenges and generating preliminary solutions.
  • Conducting data analysis.
  • Assisting in the creation of reports and other project deliverables.
  • Performing site surveys and inspections.
  • Preparing and adhering to health and safety risk assessments.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidates will be eager to learn and advance their technical skills, whether at the beginning of their careers, working towards a professional qualification, or applying their expertise in senior leadership roles. Self-motivation and the ability to collaborate effectively in various project roles are essential.

AtkinsRéalis values the importance of a diverse and flexible workforce, recognizing that many qualified individuals seek to advance their careers without committing to full-time positions. We support flexible working arrangements and are open to discussing how we can accommodate individual needs. By default, we offer flexible working conditions, eliminating the constraints of a fixed schedule and allowing for a balance between work and personal life.

Compensation and Benefits:

We provide a competitive salary that is regularly benchmarked against industry standards, along with a default of 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays, with options to purchase or sell additional leave. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

This role may necessitate security clearance, and offers of employment will be contingent upon obtaining the required level of clearance. If this is applicable, it will be discussed during the interview process. The vetting procedure is conducted by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK for a minimum of five years.

AtkinsRéalis is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
