Position Overview

Urban Water Management Specialists - Various Experience Levels and Locations Across the UK

We are seeking to expand our successful Water division by recruiting Urban Water Management Specialists across multiple UK locations. The selected candidates will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, modellers, geographers, GIS experts, and technicians, contributing significantly to projects for a variety of clients, including water utility companies, local councils, and developers, with opportunities to engage in international initiatives.

The Urban Water Management team operates within the Asset Planning & Solutions practice, which undertakes a wide array of projects related to water and wastewater management. This includes designing water supply systems and trunk mains, as well as enhancing drainage networks to mitigate flooding and pollution, thereby improving environmental conditions. Responsibilities typically involve conducting feasibility studies and projects utilizing computer modelling and analysis to support operational and environmental recommendations.

While experience or familiarity with urban water modelling software such as InfoWorks ICM (or CS), GIS tools like ARC or MapInfo, and civil engineering principles is beneficial, it is not mandatory as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided. The roles will encompass feasibility assessments, computer analysis to support flood and environmental improvement projects, site inspections, and engagement with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and other professional entities. Outputs will generally consist of concise reports detailing methodologies and findings from investigations.

For senior positions, varying degrees of expertise in model development and validation, hydraulic and water quality assessments, catchment management, Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning (DWMP), solution formulation, and technical leadership will be essential to align with the specific role requirements.
Qualifications
  • BSc/BEng/MEng degree in geography, GIS, environmental science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent qualifications for senior roles.
  • Technician positions require HNC or HND qualifications in relevant disciplines, with opportunities for further qualification available for successful candidates.
Training and Development:
AtkinsRéalis is committed to nurturing talent through a comprehensive training and development program designed to maximize individual potential. This is reviewed annually through performance appraisals, and we actively support staff in obtaining professional qualifications from relevant institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing computer models to analyze flooding and environmental challenges and generating preliminary solutions.
  • Conducting data analysis.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and other project deliverables.
  • Performing site surveys and assessments.
  • Creating and adhering to health and safety risk assessments.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidates will be eager to learn and grow technically, whether at the beginning of their careers, pursuing professional qualifications, or applying their skills in senior leadership roles. They will be self-driven and capable of collaborating effectively with others across various project roles.

AtkinsRéalis is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
